The recently released report by the Delhi Minorities Commission on North East Delhi riots tells a grim story of police complicity and biased investigation.
The fact-finding committee, headed by advocate M.R. Shamshad, says that a narrative that both sides, the pro-CAA and anti-CAA, were equally violent has been pushed. It also notes that there has been no action against Kapil Mishra and others who gave incendiary speeches. Meanwhile, compensation to victims has been “delayed and disproportionate to the claims”, as the report says.
The Home Ministry, under which the Delhi Police functions, must realise that facts are out in the open and they cannot get away with letting the police conduct a shoddy investigation. All perpetrators of violence must be prosecuted if justice is to be done.
