Head of Supreme Court E-Committee Justice DY Chandrachud remarks about VC, web cast of Live proceedings and E-filing

Justice DY Chandrachud said that while technology with respect to hearings, are getting advanced in Supreme Court, Live web cast of proceedings will not be available for all. The hearing through Video Conferencing are going well; Chandrachud said.

He also emphasized on facilitating services that would not require the presence of clerks in the Supreme Court premises for filing documents. Meanwhile an e-filing software has been developed which is now “in its advanced stage of trial”.

The Court today revealed that at the moment, the plan is to only allow webcast of the proceedings through a password protected link generated by the Supreme Court’s office. Only few people who are in possession of generated link password will have access to it.

He also shed light upon the difficulties faced by the lawyers due to technical issues. On the issue of which platforms can be used for video conferencing, the Supreme Court had designated the Vidyo app for the proceedings. Hearings have also been conducted through WhatsApp video calls.

He pointed out that the medium of VC being used by all the High courts and the choice of platform to use is left open to the respective High Courts.
