State of Missouri (US) to sue China over COVID-19; Alleges delayed reporting, demands damages

missouri v. china

The State of Missouri has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court against the Chinese government, alleging that Chinese authorities deceived the public, suppressed crucial information and delayed reporting that led to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The complainant said:

“During the critical weeks of the initial outbreak, Chinese authorities deceived the public, suppressed crucial information, arrested whistleblowers, denied human-to-human transmission in the face of mounting evidence, destroyed critical medical research, permitted millions of people to be exposed to the virus, and even hoarded personal protective equipment—thus causing a global pandemic that was unnecessary and preventable.”

Earlier, a class action suit was filed in Texas district Court in the US seeking compensatory damages of over $20 trillion US Dollars against China for the “creation and release, accidental or otherwise” of the COVID-19 as a biological weapon in violation of China’s International obligations.

The Complaint stated that the Chinese Authorities are responsible for the enormous death, suffering, and economic losses they inflicted on the world, including Missourians, and they should be held accountable.

The Complaint has been filed through State Attorney General Eric Schmitt, alleged  that the Chinese Government delayed reporting COVID-19 to the WHO for weeks after the outbreak was identified in the Chinese medical community.

The plaintiffs have cited the following contentions to sue the Government of China for the viral outbreak, i.e:

  • Public Nuisance
  • Abnormally Dangerous Activities
  • Breach of Duty: Allowing transmission of Covid-19
  • Breach of Duty: Hoarding of PPE

State of Missouri in its complaint had also named Wuhan Institute of Virology as one of the defendants as many research show that Wuhan created the Corona Virus. Chinas’ hoarding of PPE had adversely impaired the ability of health care providers throughout the world, including in the United States and in Missouri, from safely and effectively treating patients with the virus.

The State of Missouri has demanded recovery from China, in the form of damages, for the enormous loss of life, human suffering, and economic turmoil experienced by all Missourians from the COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted the entire world.
