Karnataka Police has lodged an FIR against actor Kangana Ranaut for her tweet on Farmers Bill. Kangana Ranaut’s tweet on farmers bill criticised farmers who were protesting against the controversial farm laws passed by the government. The state government police was directed by a court in Tumakuru district of Karnataka to register an FIR against actress in light of her recent tweet in which she targeted farmers protesting the farm laws.

The FIR has been registered for Kangana Ranaut’s tweet on Farmers Bill under the Sections 44 (Injury), 108 (Abettor), 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153(A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) , 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (IPC).
‘Kangana Ranaut’s tweet on Farmers Bill has hurt the sentiments of lakhs of farmers. These kind of statements by the celebrities will instigate enmity between different groups of society and will lead to untoward incidents, which will spoil the peace and tolerance prevailing in the society’, the FIR states.
The FIR against Kangana Ranaut further stated that the investigation into the issue has begun.
The court said the complainant had filed an application under section 156(3) of the CrPC for investigation.
Based on a complaint by a lawyer L Ramesh Naik, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court directed the inspector of Kyathasandra police station to register an FIR against Kangana Ranaut who compared the protesting farmers to terrorists.
The actress had tweeted on September 21 from her Twitter handle @KanganaTeam: “People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.”
