On 25 june, Safoora Zargar, the Phd student from JamiaMilliaIslamia Universitysaid that she needed time and space to get her health and life in order after being released from Tihar Jail and conveyed her thanksto people who had spoken up for her.
In connection with the violence that broke out during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in northeast Delhi in February, Safoora Zargar, a member of the Jamia Coordination Committee, was booked under the stringent anti-terror law — Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)AND walked out of jail on 25 June, after the Delhi High Court granted her bail.
Many student activists and civil society organisations accused the police of “witchhunting” and demanded release of Safoora Zargar, who is 23 weeks pregnant in support.
In first statement after her release from jail to PTI, Zargar said“I am grateful to the almighty and all those who have spoken out for me within India and outside, and deeply grateful to the Delhi High Court for this order of release.”

On Tuesday, bail was granted to Safoora Zargar as Solicitor General Tushar Mehta did not oppose the court’s decision on humanitarian grounds in the Delhi High Court.
“I am immensely grateful to my family for standing by me and going through this trauma and worry. I need time and space to get my health and life in order and I do not wish to say anything else at this point of time. I am grateful to my lawyers.”
She communicated,
Submissions were made by the SG, representing Delhi Police that Safoora Zargar can be released on regular bail on humanitarian grounds and a precedent was made that the decision should not be taken on the merits of the case.
The court instructed hernot indulge in any activity for which she is being investigated, hamper or interfere with the on-going investigation or influence the witnesses.
Zargar has to seek permission from the trial court in case of travel and have to get in touch with the investigating officer of the case over the phone once in 15 days.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police on April 10 arrested Zargar, whereby she had challenged the June 4 trial court order in the High Court which had deniedher bail in the case.
On February 24, Communal clashes had broken out in northeast Delhi, after violence between the new citizenship law supporters and protesters spiralled out of control, leaving at least 53 people dead and bringing unrest in the state.
