A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Siddharyh Varma has registered a PIL, based on an e-mail sent by a practicing Advocate of the High Court, Gaurav K. Gaur, highlighting the “pathetic conditions” at quarantine centers.

Gaur informed the court that the one Virendra Singh, an engineer by profession, recently succumbed to the COVID-19 infection. He had informed his wife telephonically that the quarantine centre where he and his other family members were lodged did not maintain adequate hygiene.

The bench has sought a response from the state Government and has granted some time to the Chief Standing Counsel to avail necessary instructions in the matter.

“It is brought to our notice that no adequate treatment too was provided to Sri Virendra Singh, Engineer who unfortunately succumbed to Corona Virus on 6th May, 2020,” the bench observed in its short order.

The court has also taken cognizance of a video clip that is widely being circulated among the general public, disclosing pathetic conditions at quarantine centers.

The matter has now been listed for hearing on May 11.
