Legal Counsel, India & SAARC Region

We have an opening for a Legal Counsel for our India & SAARC region, to help fulfill a variety of responsibilities. Consistent with the company’s strategy of accelerating consumption of integrated solutions that solve customers’ toughest business challenges, Cisco Legal is seeking a highly motivated, self-reliant, customer-focused and disruptive legal professional to provide frontline support to the region’s channels and commercial business.
The ideal candidate would be an individual who thrives in a sales-orientated environment, has excellent written and verbal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also key to success in the role, as is the ability to work under strict timelines and comfort being routinely challenged while supporting high impact and results driven sales leaders.
The position will report to the Director & General Counsel, India & SAARC region.
Key responsibilities
- Lead negotiator, active participation as a member of the legal team with the business and the first point of contact on legal issues arising out of the channels and commercial business;
- Advise client teams on a broad range of legal disciplines, including commercial contracts, business law, competition law, IP, compliance and anti-corruption;
- Make sound legal judgments to facilitate business execution while also minimizing risk;
- Support team and business to identify and capitalize on opportunities to implement positive, innovative change that supports Cisco’s strategic direction; drive replicable models and change agent projects to achieve higher customer and client satisfaction and efficiency gains.
- Liaison with and provide general legal advice to the business team, finance, brand protection, corporate investigations and other functions;
- Support and/or the implementation of innovative and replicable legal solutions to business problems, managing policies and ensuring consistency with corporate strategy and business objectives, while maintaining the company’s high standards of integrity and ethical and transparent conduct
- Work closely and seamlessly with India and SAARC team to ensure compliance issues are identified and managed effectively.
Requirements
- Law degree from a well-respected institution in India or other Common Law country.
- At least 9 years of experience as a trusted advisor, negotiator, and drafter of complex sales transactions in a high-tech sales environment.
- Experience engaging with regulatory issues, interacting with government officials as well as relevant industry groups, and ensuring ongoing compliance with local regulatory requirements.
- Excellent working knowledge of commercial contracts, including technology sales, license and services agreements, business law, and competition law basics.
- Ability to negotiate and draft complex agreements in a high-pressured environment.
- “Can Do” attitude, and the drive, resourcefulness and skills to enable the business and assist team in getting deals closed, balancing priorities and risks with business benefit.
- In-house experience in a sales organiation dealing with executives and strategic customers.
- Equally comfortable and confident in in dealing directly with region management, middle management, frontline sales and field teams.
