Today, The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) communicated to the Supreme Court that instead of conducting final examination for students of Class X and XII, evaluation on the basis of an Assessment Scheme would done to formulate the results for the students.
Disposing a batch of petitions filed by a group of parents who challenged the CBSE move to conduct the remaining board exams in July, Supreme Court accepted the draft notification for the Assessment Scheme on 26 June 2020.
Performance of students will be assessed on the basis of the Assessment Scheme, and Results based on the same will be declared by July 15, 2020, held the draft notification.

Class X shall have no exams
No further exams for students of Class X, informed the Board.
“For candidates in class X, no further examinations will be conducted and the result declared by CBSE on the basis of assessment scheme will be treated as final.”
The notification stated,
Class XII shall have Optional Examination
For students of Class XII, the subjects whose examinations were scheduled to be conducted from 1 July to 15 July, 2020, CBSE will conduct an “optional examination” as soon as conditions are conducive and for the exams already taken, the result will be on the written performance of students.
Clarifications are made that Candidates whose results will be declared based on the assessment scheme will be allowed to appear in the optional examinations to improve their performance on their wish and the marks obtained by a candidate in these optional examinations will be treated as final for those who have opted to take these examinations.
EVALUATION SCHEME
The “Competent Committee” of CBSE stipulates the scheme:
For students who have completed all their examinations, their results will be declared based on their performance in the examinations. (Applicable to students of both classes-X and XII)
For students who have appeared in the examinations in “more than 3 subjects”, the average of the marks obtained in best three performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.
For students who have appeared in the examinations in “only 3 subjects”, the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.
For students who have appeared in the examinations in only 1 or 2 subjects (mainly from Delhi), their results will be declared based on performance in the appeared subjects and performance in internal/ practical/ project assessment. These students will also be allowed to appear in the Optional examinations conducted by CBSE to improve their performance, if they desire to do so. Result of these students will also be declared along with other students.
