The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has written to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice DN Patel seeking directions to waive off chamber licence fee and minimum electricity charges payable for connection at the lawyers chambers in the High Court.
Although the chambers were permitted to be opened by the High Court in a phased manner, it is matter of record that the attendance has remained negligible, it is stated.

“There is no gainsaying that during these unprecedented troubled times when practically the entire country has come to a standstill, lawyers have also been severely impacted with much diminished spending capacities at their disposal. There have been many cases where lawyers are finding it very difficult even to defray their routine household essential expenses.”
The Request of waive off chamber licence fee payable by the allottee lawyers is also made.
DHCBA has thus urged Chief Justice DN Patel to direct NDMC to waive off/withdraw the minimum electricity charges levied in respect of the lawyers chambers with effect from March 24 till the time normalcy is restored.
It is DHCBA’s concern that in spite of the above situation and the fact that practically no electricity has been consumed, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has continued charge the minimum electricity charges in respect of the chambers.
