ABOUT THE ORGANISERS-

LEX MACULA is a registered NGO under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. We are a youth organisation specializing in organizing moot courts, debates, seminars and other legal competitions for a much better learning experience than what is offered to the law students. Driven by a sense of excellence and talent in the young minds, a variety of mediums are provided to help students achieve perfectionism in every domain of the legal field. The vision at Lex Macula is based around equality of opportunity in the field of law. By creating a community of law students, all students are delivered an equal shot at growing and learning.

ABOUT THE EVENT-

The theme for the discussion will be “How India reacts to Rape: Sensitising the Legal System”.  (Lex Macula)

It is well documented that cases of sexual violence are generally under-reported in India and research has shown that women and families do not seek redressal from the criminal justice system primarily because they want to avoid the trauma that they are subjected to in the process of a criminal trial. This process of destigmatising a rape victim opening up about her trauma and approaching it without judgement and with compassion is an essential topic to be discussed with the future of the legal fraternity.

Our speakers will be discussing how the courtroom proceedings can be made victim-friendly during a rape trial to ensure that the victim is able to give her testimonial without inhibitions. And further will also discuss how a figure of an “ideal rape victim” has been created through patriarchal beliefs that underpins adjudication in rape cases in India. Their insight would be an eye-opener to the law students as well as lawyers and academicians.  (Lex Macula)

We hope to provoke discussion on this topic and raise awareness which we hope will also bring some much-needed change in the society. We at Lex Macula aim to educate our audience on the full spectrum of this topic and we are confident that all attendees will gain something of value from this conversation. With this spirit in mind, Lex Macula duly invite everyone to attend this session on the topic- HOW INDIA REACTS TO RAPE- SENSITISING THE LEGAL SYSTEM on 23rd August, 2020 at 5 PM.
