In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases, A Plea has been filed in the Supreme Court by the Rashtravadi Janata Party (RJP) seeking directions to the Election Commission of India to defer the Bihar elections scheduled for October and November this year.

The plea has stated that the recent Bihar floods would also cause difficulties in the conduct of the elections.

“State is also undergoing flood situation and it will be better for the safety of the people of India to hold the said election sometime in the month of March, 2021 when the situation in the State is somewhat normalized so that the citizen can participate and cast their votes safely and without there being any threat either of pandemic or the flood.”

The petitioner for bihar elections postponement states that a representation highlighting these concerns was made before the Election Commission on June 30, to which no reply has been received till date.
