The OP Jindal Global University (JGU) has been conferred the status of an “Institution of Eminence” after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Education today.
In effect, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) will come under the Institution of Eminence tag. OP Jindal Global University becomes one of the few institutes in the country to receive Institution of Eminence status, and will be unshackled from regulatory control and will receive full autonomy.
Speaking about the development in a press release, Vice-Chancellor of OP Jindal Global University and Dean on JGLS Prof C Raj Kumar said,
“I am hopeful that the status of IoE, and far-reaching policy reforms in higher education will permeate the actions of all regulatory agencies, and will ease the environment for higher education institutions to enable them to focus on their core tasks…
…our biggest challenge has been to gain credibility as a serious institution of higher education learning. It was not easy to believe in this idea and to galvanise academic and social consciousness in favour of the concept of a private university in India that is not-for-profit in nature, pluralistic in academic orientation, celebrating diversity of all kinds, and indeed committed to academic freedom, institutional autonomy and financial independence.”
