ABOUT THE ORGANISERS
LEX MACULA is a registered NGO under the Societies Registration Act, 1861. We are a youth organisation specializing in organizing moot courts, debates, seminars and other legal competitions for a much better learning experience than what is offered to the law students. Driven by a sense of excellence and talent in the young minds, a variety of mediums are provided to help students achieve perfectionism in every domain of the legal field. The vision at Lex Macula is based around equality of opportunity in the field of law. By creating a community of law students, all students are delivered an equal shot at growing and learning.
THE EVENT
Since its adoption in 1950 to the present-day of 2020, there have been several situations and instances where the Indian Constitution has been either questioned or debated upon. Be it the AK Gopalan case of 1950, the Elections case of ’75, the Best Bakery case of ’03 relating to the Gujarat riots or the very recent judgement on abolition of Article 370-a lot of people have expressed a lot of their views. They have exercised their rights and our Judiciary has responded positively wherever it deemed fit.
In these times of ever-changing political scenarios and new laws being introduced at very short intervals, the topic of why our Constitution matters and what all rights and responsibilities it provides us is very important for the people to know.
And to enlighten us on this topic we have with us the esteemed legal dignitary Mr. Salman Khurshid. A renowned Senior Lawyer-Educationist-Writer-Politician, he was born into a distinguished family of educationists cum national leaders who served the country with great distinction for over three generations. And Sir has carried on this family tradition with utmost honour, gaining tremendous goodwill along the way.
He will be talking on the topics of how the highest Courts of the country decide the reasonable restrictions exercised on the various rights offered to the citizens of India, how the exercise of these rights is debated upon in the Courts of law, especially the Supreme Court, and more such new age Constitutional challenges and discourses in the 21st century.
With him on board, we aim to provoke discussion and raise awareness on this topic, which we hope will also bring some positive changes in the society.
Keeping this spirit in mind Lex Macula duly invite everyone to attend our webinar on the topic “Why Our Constitution matters-the Rights and Responsibilities” on 18th July, 2020 at 5 PM.
