About the session:
Wokeness as a cultural and political phenomenon has engulfed the academic spaces of the West, and now poses a serious challenge to the larger political spheres as well. With the advent of the post-modernist school of thought, a rapid spread of woke culture has been witnessed. In this backdrop, it becomes imperative to examine its intellectual history and origins and chalk out its theoretical underpinnings. This session shall be one such attempt in this direction.
Bio of the speaker:
Dr. Saumya Dey is an associate professor of history at O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana. His primary research interests are intellectual and cultural history. He has, to date, authored one monograph and two collections of essays- Becoming Hindus and Muslims: Reading the Cultural Encounter in Bengal 1342-1905 (Munshiram Manoharlal, 2015). The Cultural Landscape of Hindutva and other Essays: Historical Legitimacy of an Idea (Shubhi Publications, 2019). Narrativizing Bh?ratvarsa & Other Essays (Shubhi Publications, 2021). He earned his Ph.D. at the Center for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
