About the competition:
The ‘LEXLAWGICAL’ club of Manipal University, Jaipur brings you a chance to participate in the first leg of the MUJ National Article Writing Competition.
Old is not gold; the competition circumscribes and encourages the idea to raise awareness about the obsolete laws that do not find relevance in the contemporary India.
The Supreme Court of India shot down in quick succession archaic British-enacted laws relating to gay relationships and adultery. Similar obsolete laws still exist in our statute books and close to 3,000 of them can be safely discarded or modified. The decriminalization of section 377 kick-started a snowball effect, which made people think about the obsolete laws and the need to amend/change them. Perhaps the most crucial and troublesome are some provisions of the IPC which need careful debate, but definitely lean towards reading down or repeal. So, we ask you:
Are you satisfied with the way things are? Do you feel an urgent need to make rectifications in the current law system? Are the codified punishments enough or do you think they are inadequate to the gravity of a given crime?
Don’t let the fire of change extinguish, future lawmakers! Start today by enrolling yourself for the first leg of MUJ National Article Writing Competition and become the face of change and voice your opinion.
