About Soumi Guha Thakurta

An independent law practitioner and consultant from Kolkata, West Bengal, with expertise in Civil Law, Petroleum Law, Writ Laws, Consumer Protect Laws, Matrimonial Law, Corporate Law, and litigation management. I am currently empaneled with the State of West Bengal, CPCB, PNGRB, Legal Consultant of Dillions Kidney Foundation (DKF), Volunteer of LASWEB, Kolkata and on the advisory role to numerous companies.

Inspired by my father who has been a successful litigation lawyer for over 35 years, I’ve been a risk taker, and have successfully handled several arbitration matters, writ petitions, matrimonial cases, and succession (Wills, testamentary matters). One important lesson I’ve learnt from my father was irrespective of the clients’ wishes, a good lawyer should possess integrity, honesty, transparency and good will in all legal matters.

I hold a degree of B.A. LLB from the esteemed Calcutta University, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Laws and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences. I started my career as an associate with a law firm named Parekh & Co and later practiced as a senior associate at Lex Jurist Law Firm. However, I was strongly motivated to move out from the limited boundaries of legal firms and practice independently.

In February 2018, I was invited as a guest speaker on ‘Medical Negligence’ at Dillon’s Kidney Foundation and was also a special member at Legal Aid Services West Bengal and legal expert on Dillon Kidney Foundation. Additionally, was also a Delegate at Good Clinical Practice BAFMCON 2019.

With my strong leadership qualities, in the next five years, I want to dedicate my time in becoming a successful lawyer and build goodwill in the society through my work. My dream is to open up multiple law firms in Delhi, Mumbai and even expand internationally. I want to encourage women lawyers and want to ensure that all my office spaces are women as well as LGBTQ friendly.

Over and above my professional commitments, I’ve also handled some pro- bono matters and have advised many corporate clients from India and overseas too. I possess strong communication skills which are vital when meeting and interviewing clients to establish the suitability to provide the necessary advice and services and I have a track record of providing successful relief to all my clients on their legal matters.
