About LIFE:

LIFE is setting up a dedicated team to focus on climate litigation in India. The aim will be to use international commitments and domestic legal tool to ensure climate justice. The responsibility will involve research and litigation on issues concerning climate change and energy transition. The Associate Litigator will work on creatively using litigation on different aspects related to climate change – adaptation, mitigation and resilience. This will also include work on clean energy and energy transition. The position will be based in our office in New Delhi and Kolkata and will involve litigation before the NGT, High Court and Supreme Court.  

LIFE is an environmental law group which has been involved in environmental litigations across range of issues across the country. LIFE works towards securing environmental justice for communities, non -human species and ecosystems. It creatively uses legal institutions to promote the environmental rule of law. In recognition of its work to secure justice, LIFE received the Right Livelihood Award, 2021 also know as the ‘alternative Nobel Prize’

About the Opportunity


Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE) invites applications for  the position of Associate Litigator on  Climate Change and Clean Energy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and litigate cases from beginning to end, performing all aspects of litigation related to climate change and clean energy.
  • Collaborate and manage relationships with co-counsel, clients, and coalition partners
  • Work effectively on legal and policy issues related to climate change
  • Submissions and follow up on Climate Change agreement (CoP).

Eligibility

  • Law graduates with at least three years’ experience in litigation or research.
  • Excellent drafting and communication skill. The candidate must have experience in drafting petitions before Courts and Tribunal. Those with previous experience in drafting PIL’s will be preferred.
  • Must have excellent research skill – both of domestic law and international law.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in either the field of environment or environmental law.
  • Candidates must have good interpersonal skill and ability to work in a team.
  • Candidates must have genuine and deep interest in environmental issues and for protecting the rights of the nature. Specifically candidates must have the drive to make a difference and bring about positive societal change
