About National Green Tribunal

The National Green Tribunal has been established on 18.10.2010 under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010 for effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. It is a specialized body equipped with the necessary expertise to handle environmental disputes involving multi-disciplinary issues. The Tribunal shall not be bound by the procedure laid down under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, but shall be guided by principles of natural justice.

The Tribunal’s dedicated jurisdiction in environmental matters shall provide speedy environmental justice and help reduce the burden of litigation in the higher courts. The Tribunal is mandated to make and endeavour for disposal of applications or appeals finally within 6 months of filing of the same. Initially, the NGT is proposed to be set up at five places of sittings and will follow circuit procedure for making itself more accessible. New Delhi is the Principal Place of Sitting of the Tribunal and Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai shall be the other four place of sitting of the Tribunal.

About the opportunity

PROGRAMME FOR INTERNSHIP FOR LL.B./LL.M./ ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES/ RESEARCH STUDENTS

The National Green Tribunal provides opportunities by holding Summer Internship Program (March, April, May and July ordinarily) Winter Internship Program (November, December and January ordinarily) Internship Program.
The Program is open for students pursuing studies in Law and Environmental Studies from recognized Colleges/Law Schools/ Universities in India.

Guidelines

  1. Duration of Internship will be 4 Weeks ordinarily.
  2. The National Green Tribunal pays no remuneration/expenses.
  3. The interested environmental studies and law students pursuing three-year and five-year law degree course from any recognized College/Law School/University may send their applications in the enclosed format, by 1st February (in case of Summer Internship Programme) and by 1st October (in case of Winter Internship Programme).

How to apply:

These applications may be sent either by post, or by hand in prescribed format to reach the office of the Registrar General, National Green Tribunal (Principal Bench), Faridkot House, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi- 110001. Applications can also be mailed at rg.ngt@nic.in. Application received after the last date may not be considered and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. An incomplete application will not be entertained.
All these applications will be scrutinized and the actual offer will be sent to the selected students subject to the availability of slot and approval of the Competent Authority.
Maximum number of slots to be offered to the students shall be decided by the Competent Authority.
