Green Voter Project The Final Stand

About The Final Stand

The Final Stand is a student-run climate change advocacy, law, and policy initiative at the University under the mentorship of Justice Michael D. Wilson of the Hawaii Supreme Court. They are primarily focused on increasing climate change literacy and drafting policy and legislation to aid our fight against the biggest threat to our collective existence. Under the Final Stand, the ThinkOcean team is an autonomous project-based vertical, which is affiliated with the global organisation ‘ThinkOcean’ consisting of networks across the world. ThinkOcean aims to address oceanic and land-based environmental issues through increasing student awareness and participation in environment-related projects. It is a network of chapters across educational institutions and region-based councils and facilitates the decentralisation required to effectively address such concerns.

About the Green Voter Project

The project is intended to be a long-term project, which would eventually culminate in climate change becoming a major electoral issue in India starting with the centre (Delhi) and surrounding northern states, and in Mumbai and its surrounding regions, especially for the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society, as these are the sections which will be affected most as the problem and effects of climate change escalate. This project aims to make climate change a political issue, as this is the fastest way for real meaningful change to occur, especially in the current Indian social landscape. The first phase which will eventually lead to the culmination of the same will be raising awareness about the adverse effects of climate change and showing such sections the risks climate change poses to them. The same will be done by using an existing network of NGOs and converting research and articles on the same to a simpler and more understandable format by translating them into regional languages, to make research related to the same more accessible to the people of the nation. New materials will be produced quarterly to foster an ongoing interest and the same will be distributed digitally, ideally via whatsapp, with periodic quizzes to understand the success of the project. Half yearly city-wide events will also be held, with plays, and or music, accompanied with distribution of prizes for best performing members in the quiz. The next two phases would be engaging with political leaders and large corporations respectively.

The same must be done in an offline or online mode depending on the current COVID situation at the time.
