About the Organization  

The Kerala Law Academy Law College (KLA), established in 1966 is a Centre for legal studies, legal research and law reforms. Its acclaimed peer-reviewed Research Journal has been published continuously since 1977. The College, affiliated to the University of Kerala, offers Undergraduate programs in BA LL.B. and B. Com LL.B. five-year integrated courses, LLB Unitary three-year course and post-Graduate courses of LL.M (Administrative Law), LL.M (International Law) and MBL (Master of Business Law). Its sister concern, CALSAR offers a Research Program in Law (PhD). 

Kerala Law Academy Law College in association with Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and  Research (CALSAR) is organizing a One Day International Seminar on Credibility of Evidence by Forensic Practices in Crime Investigation on 8th of January, 2021 from the Kerala Law Academy Campus, Peroorkada, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The Seminar is conducted through online platforms ZOOM and GOOGLE MEET. All the participants should have good access to the internet and be able to access the above said online platform.

The Chief Guest for the International Seminar (Tenth Virtual) on Credibility of Evidence by Forensic Practices in Crime Investigation is Professor Jeeva Niriella, Department of Public and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.

Call for Papers 

The Organizing Committee is calling for Research Articles from Law Students, Academicians, Lawyers, Social Workers, Policy Makers, and Officials from various Departments- Representatives from Institutions and Professionals; NGO, Social Activists, Social Science Researchers and Faculty and Research Scholars. The Research Articles received would be published in proceedings with ISBN.

  • Automated Fingerprint Identification system, significance of poroscopy and edgeoscopy, Constituents of sweat residue, mechanism of detection of fingerprints by different developing reagents, preservation of developed fingerprints, fingerprinting the deceased.
  • Importance of footprints, casting, electrostatic lifting of foot prints, palm prints, lip prints and its examination.
  • Chromatographic methods, fundamental principles and forensic application of thin layer chromatography.
  • Spectroscopic methods, Lambert- Beer Law, Electrophoresis, Neutron activation analysis and Forensic application of microscopy.
  • Computer forensics Investigations.
  • Forensic significance of tachograph data.
  • Role of DNA typing in identifying unrecognizable bodies- Hardy-Weinberg law.

  • Analysis of traces of petroleum products in forensic exhibits, cases involving arson, Analysis of fire debris.
  • Post-mortem changes affecting the analysis of narcotics.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL LANDSCAPES WITH THE CONFLICTS AND PROBLEMS IN FORENSIC EVIDENCE.

  • Expert opinion under Indian Evidence Act, 1872, basic tools needed for forensic documents, forgeries and the concept of corroboration.
  • Adversarial Versus Inquisitorial System.
  • Deposition of the medical witness and report of certain Government scientific experts under  Section 291 and Section 293 of Criminal Procedural Code.
  • Medico-legal aspects of death, interviewing onlookers and segregating possible witnesses, Miranda warning card, suicidal notes.
  • Psychology of evidence, criminal profiling and psychology in court room , Ethical issues in forensic psychology with reference to Section 84 IPC.
  • Legal aspects of bite marks.
  • Legal and privacy issues in computer forensics.
  • Data Depiction like non-verbal detection, statement analysis, voice stress analyser, hypnosis, polygraphy-ethical and legal aspects, the guilty knowledge test, Narcos Analysis and brain electrical oscillation signatures- theory, ethical and legal issues.
  • Legal considerations at crime scenes, documentation of crime scenes , preparation of inquest (S.174 Cr. P.C), duties of first responders at crime scene, coordination between police personnel and forensic scientists at crime scenes, Crime Scene logs.
  • Crime scene evidence, collecting, sealing and labelling of evidence, Application of Locard’s Principle, chain of custody and reconstruction of crime scene.
  • Forensic accountancy, forensic auditing and violation of Intellectual property Rights, case histories .
  • Forensic science in International Perspectives with the setup of INTERPOL and FBI.
  • Duties of forensic scientists, Code of Conduct of Forensic Scientists and their qualifications.
  • Organisational Set ups of Forensic laboratories and other ancillary institutional panorama.
  • Regulatory framework of forensic evidence, national and international perspective.

Note: These Themes are not exhaustive; Authors are open to work on any topic related to the above-mentioned theme.

Guidelines for Paper Submission 

·       Kindly confine yourself to the areas identifiable with the title of seminar. The papers must be in Times New Roman, Font Size: Heading-14, Text-16 in A4 format, single line spacing, in justify not exceeding 2500 words including Title, details of the Author/s and Footnotes. Authors are encouraged to use The Bluebook (20th ed.) citation format for footnoting and it should be in Times New Roman Font 10 size. Further, speaking footnotes are discouraged. 

·        An Abstract not exceeding 250 words shall be submitted for consideration. The Abstract shall contain the Synopsis of the Paper, Subtitles, Reference materials and Conclusion indicating author’s perspective. The abstract must be mailed to klainternationalseminar10@gmail.com with the subject “Abstract submission” on or before 16th December 2021. It must be accompanied by a cover page, stating the following –

Title of the paper; Sub-Theme; Name of Author(s); Name of Institute/Organization; Official Designation; E-mail Address; Postal Address; Contact Number

o   The Submission should be in WORD FORMAT.  

o   All footnotes must adhere to 20th edition of Bluebook standards and must be styled using the footnote option in word.

o   Borders, underlines or other design objects must not be included in the paper.

o   References need not be mentioned at the end of a paper and must be included within footnotes.

o   Precedents may be in Italics but not bold.

o   All sub headings must be left aligned, in bold.

o   The Papers shall be screened by a Committee. The Full Papers (2500 words) approved by the Committee shall be accepted for presentation in the Seminar. The intimation of selection will be made through E-mail.

o   The final paper should contain a cover page which includes Name, Designation, Relevant Discipline and Year of Study, Address, E-mail id and Contact number. Authors are to give details in the Full Paper.

o   Abstracts and papers should be written in English, and the working language of the Seminar will be English, and presentations shall be done in English.

o   Submissions should be made by the author who will attend the Seminar.

o   Co-Authorship is allowed but limited to one Co-Author only.

o   Only one paper per participant will be permitted. Multiple submissions will lead to disqualification. 

o   No part of the paper should have been published earlier nor should it be under consideration for publication. Any form of Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.

o   The Organizers will take earnest effort to publish the best articles selected from among those received, subject to their acceptance by reputed journals as per their criteria. 

o   Publishing Charges if any demand for the journal is to be paid by the author.   

Important Dates 

Submission of Abstracts:  16th December 2021.

Communication of Abstract Acceptance: 18th December 2021. 

Submission of Full paper: 1st of January 2022.

Intimation of Full paper Acceptance:  4th January 2022. 

Date of payment of Registration fee: 6th January 2022.

International Seminar:  8th January 2022.

Registration Fees 

There is a Registration fee of Rs.750/- per participant (Additional fee of Rs.250/- should be paid in the case of maximum one Co-Author).

Payment Details 

The Participant intending to participate must register on or before 6th January 2022  (06/01/2022) by submitting the duly filled pro forma, which will be provided through mail after the acceptance of full paper. All the participants must make an online payment of Rs.750/- ( In the case of co-author Rs.1000/-) as the registration fee, through the online link provided in the Kerala Law Academy website (CLICK HERE).

Certificate

  • All the Participants will be awarded with an E-certificate of presentation.
