Concept Note | “Importance of Planetary Well-being in the Contemporary World”
We as humanity in the past several centuries have evolved in ways that seem unreal but at the same time, we have dealt a devastating blow to our planet in our quest to achieve those heights. Through our mindless activities in the name of development, we have caused a significant amount of irrefutable damage to our surroundings which has led to severe ecological and environmental imbalances. This extremely short-sighted approach towards our future is the reason why environmental disasters have become frequent.
Now, it is essential for us to look at the bigger picture and initiate efforts to rectify our mistakes. The major components which contribute to planetary well-being are values of respect, care for the communities, ecological integrity, social and economic justice, democracy, non-violence, and peace. These components need to drive the actions and policies of every country. Thus, in order to restore our planet’s health, it is essential for all the countries to contribute to its wellbeing and for us citizens to come together and commit ourselves to making that dream a reality.
