Event Details
Date : 27th and 29th January, 2022
Debate Competition will be held over a period of 2 days:
Day 1 – Preliminary Rounds 1 & 2
Day 2 – Round 3, 4 and Finals
Venue: e-Platform of Zoom
Mode – Virtual
Rules of the event:
Participation:
- Eligibility:
- The participating student must not be above 24 years of age.
AND
- The participating student must be studying in a law or commerce college and must not possess any professional qualification such as CA/LLB/CS/ICWA.
- Each team must consist of 2 members only.
- Colleges/Law Firms/CA firms are eligible to send their team with participants meeting the eligibility criteria mentioned in point 1 above.
- Only one team is allowed per College / Institution / CA firm / Law firm.
- The students are also invited to enroll as an Independent Team.
- The participants should be available for the Competition for the whole day on both the days.
- No identity of Participants and/or their College/Firm whatsoever may be disclosed during the arguments / presentation.
- Any replacement of any of the participants will only be permitted at the discretion of the Authority.
Presentation:
- All the facts stated in the arguments must be legally and technically accurate.
- All the facts will be cross checked.
- Abusive words, swear language or any other offensive means cannot be used within the session. Any derogatory remarks on caste, creed, sex should be strictly avoided.
- The dress code for the event is strictly Formals.
- Communication and argument should strictly be in English.
- No presentations (PPTs) required.
- Both participants need to speak for an even amount of time during their presentation.
Time count for the rounds:
Time Count for Round 1,2 & 3 –
- Each team gets 5 minutes to speak on the given topic.
- 1st Warning Bell at 4th Minute, 2nd and Final Warning Bell at 5th minute.
Negative markings after 5 minutes.
- 8 minutes of counter-arguments
- Each team gets 2 minutes to conclude.
- Total Debate Time – 22 minutes
Time Count for Round 4 & Finals –
- Each team gets 8 minutes to speak on the given topic.
- 1st Warning Bell at 6th minute. 2nd and Final Warning Bell at 8th minute.
Negative markings after 8 minutes.
- 10 minutes of counter-arguments
- Each team gets 2 minutes to conclude.
- Total Debate Time – 30 minutes
Marking:
- Marking Criteria :
- Personality (Confidence, General Impression) 10 points
- Speak/Presentation 20 points
- Content (Preparation, Knowledge, Facts) 30 points
- Rebuttal 20 points
- Conclusion 20 points
- Decision of the authority will be final and binding on all.
- No new arguments will be allowed in rebuttal speeches.
- In case of tie at any level, the judges will put forth questions based on whose answers the winner of the round or as the case may be shall be decided.
- New Ideas will be appreciated
Awards:
- Trophies shall be awarded to the Winner and the First and Second Runner-Up
- Award will also be presented to The Best Speaker and the Second Best Speaker.
- Certificate of Participation will be presented to each of the Participants.
Miscellaneous:
- Usage of cell phones / electronic media (other than the medium being used by the Participants for attending the meeting) during the session will not be permitted.
- A debater will not receive any help from anyone else during the time of presentation.
- Each Debater will have to keep their Videos switched ON when their Opponent Team is arguing.
- Every Participant is requested to arrange for stable internet connection, clear audio input/mic throughout the event days. Participants are also requested to sit in a place with adequate light.
- All participants should log-in Zoom Meetings with their Name in Zoom Application as their respective Participant Codes Only. (eg. Team 1A, Team 3B, etc.)
- All participants should be present in the Zoom Meeting at least 15 minutes prior to their Round of Debates. In case they are not available in the Meeting, their Opponent in their debate round will be declared as winners. No excuses will be entertained.
- Participants should not ask for feedback from the Judges till the Results for the Round are announced.
- The organisers reserve the right to alter, vary, modify or repeal any of the rules if so required as they deem appropriate.
