About RGNUL
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab is a premier educational institute. It has been established by the State Legislature of Punjab by Punjab Act No.12 of 2006. The University acquired the approval of the Bar Council of India (BCI) in July 2006. In 2007 the University got registered with the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi under Section 2(f) of the UGC, Act, 1956. The University has been Accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in 2015.
About CyberLaw University
Cyberlaw University is an online education platform that is specifically dedicated to the study of Cyberlaw and related legal issues. Cyberlaw University aims to provide various courses and diplomas that would make the participants more aware of the various legal issues pertaining to cyberspace, the Internet, and the World Wide Web. Cyberlaw University is committed to bringing the constantly evolving trends pertaining to legal issues impacting computers, computer systems, computer networks, communication devices as also data and information in the electronic form, to the participants of its various courses.
About the Course
The topic of data protection has become extremely relevant with the passing of time. The coming of Covid-19 has once again demonstrated the fact that Indians are becoming huge generators of data. As Indians have transformed themselves into global authors, global transmitters, and global broadcasters of data, it becomes imperative for data to be appropriately protected.
India is now coming up with a new approach to data protection. After almost two years, the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (‘JPC’) on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 was finally released on December 16, 2021. The Report also contains a new version of the law titled, “The Data Protection Bill, 2021”.
In the light of these developments, a short-term- certificate course will be conducted on “Data Protection Approaches in India”. This course would aim to sensitize all stakeholders about the emerging data protection legal frameworks and approaches in India. The course is proposed for a total duration of 16 hours. The course would be jointly offered by Cyberlaw University and the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law.
Course Structure
The course will have the following components: 1. Data and its growing importance – Globally; 2. Data and its growing importance in India; 3. Concept of Data Protection -its evolution and growth so far – globally; 4. Data protection approaches in India from 2000 till 2019; 5. Important cases concerning data protection in India; 6. Justice B.N. Srikrishna Report on Data Protection and Personal Data Protection Bill, 2018; 7. Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019-salient features, issues, and challenges; 8. Sovereign interests, data privacy, and data protection; 9. Joint Parliamentary Committee and its Report on PDP Bill, 2019; 10. Data protection and Cyber Security – connection and correlation – Global Scenario; 11. Data protection and Cyber Security – Legal approaches in India; 12. Aadhaar and protection of Aadhaar related data; 13. Data protection and India’s growing mobile ecosystem; 14. Data protection and cloud computing; 15. General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and its impact on data protection; 16. Emerging trends on data protection-globally and in India
Eligibility
The program shall be held online mode on 26th and 27th February 2022.
The course is open to all law students, faculty and professionals. All participants are required to pay the Registration Fee of Rs 8000/- (inclusive of GST)
